Reservoir to Tap – The Network Challenge
Spark! and Thames Water bring to Hounslow Schools each year ‘Reservoir to Tap: The Network Challenge’. This is an exciting, award winning educational resource for Schools. Developed by Thames Water Engineers, it challenges students to design, build and commission a water supply network.
‘Reservoir to Tap: The Network Challenge’ simulates the life of a real engineering project. Students work in teams to not only plan, buy materials, construct and commission a water supply network, but also to make decisions on choice of route, customer needs, cost environmental impact, health and safety and public relations to successfully supply customers water.
“Activities such as The Network Challenge actively engage students and ignites their ambitions as we increasingly personalise our education programmes. These Work Related activities with the Spark! team enrich the curriculum and act as a catalyst to immersive learning.”
Tony Loughlin, Work Related Learning Coordinator, Rivers Academy
‘Reservoir to Tap: The Network Challenge’ supports the National Curriculum Key Stage 3 in Science, Geography and Design and Technology. In addition to increasing students awareness and understanding of engineering, water treatment and supply and issues faced by Thames Water, it also provides an opportunity to use and develop key skills such as working together, problem solving, communication, numeracy and literacy.
